Today we did an amazing job with our reading and writing. We talked about using the strategy of chunking (looking for little pieces) to help us solve longer words. We also explored what happens when we mix the colours red, yellow and blue in different combinations.
We also started home reading! Please take time each night to read for 10-15 minutes with your child. We are having the students use the IPICK chart below to choose a book that is right for them. They have the choice to keep the book for as long as they need it but we would recommend changing at least once a week. Students should each have a folder in their bag with a book in it. This folder will also be used for notices so please always return it to your child's backpack. We had a great walk in the coulee today. We saw evidence of animal homes and even saw some animals. We discovered evidence of people that used to live in the coulee too. Ask me what we saw. We extended our nature pattern by sketching and we are going to create our own class pattern book.
Reminders: Have a great weekend! The Grade 3 students from Eric Harvie and Tuscany, will be starting a drive for Jacket Racket beginning Monday, October 17th and running to Wednesday, Oct. 26th. Jacket Racket is a volunteer organization that collects and provides warm coats, snow pants, hats and mittens to students who need them. Please take some time with your children to go through their winter items. Please give them a wash and put them in a plastic bag to be brought to school. If you could list the items and sizes on the outside of the bag, it would help the students with the sorting process! We also accept adult sizes, as many older students need help to stay warm in the winter as well! Today we practiced our "work on writing" in the morning and we reviewed all the combinations that make ten and played "make ten go fish", In the afternoon we tried to make 40 different colors again. This time we tried to make some of the missing colors from last time by creating a chart.
