Today we got to get new library books, explore our sense of touch, read with a partner and practice with ten frames.

Today we continued talking about being unique and we read the story "Octicorn" then we got to make our own animal. We learned more partner reading behaviors like "voice level" so we can all read out loud in our classroom at once. We also used our sense of touch to describe mystery items in bags.

We also got to learn about the CPL (Calgary Public Library) and how we can check out books from them. Unfortunately, the stairs of the truck are broken so we didn't get to go inside today! We also worked with 5 frames today and are learning to be accurate, efficient and flexible in our mathematical thinking!

Today we went to the coulee and it was very windy! We practiced looking really closely at something and sketching all of the details we could see. Take a look at the picture below to see a creature we saw on the way! The coulee is home to so many animals! We also practice some reading to a partner behaviours. Ask your child what EEKK means.

Today we had our Terry Fox run and it was awesome! We filled in stickers about who we were running for. Thank you to ur volunteers who helped with the run and brought fruit trays! We learned about Pablo Picasso and how he makes cubist pictures. His art reminded us of our pipe cleaner faces.

They also practiced observation and sketching of leaves. They had to look very closely and draw what they saw not what was in their imagination.

Today we continued to practice using our new reading strategies and building our stamina. We also completed our pinwheels for peace and got to use them outside with everyone at the school!

Today we learned about a new reading strategy called "Tune into Interesting Words" to help us expand our vocabulary. We also used the nature materials we collected to practice counting with tallies. After lunch we created a classroom alphabet with the same materials!

Today we had an assembly to kick off our Terry Fox run. Please see the link in Friday's post for important information about our events. The run is next Monday Sept. 26.
We sorted some of the nature materials we collected from the coulee. We learned we can sort in many ways like shapes, size, type, color, where it came from and more! We also worked on our Pinwheels for Peace which we will be using at our Peace Day assembly on Wednesday. Reminders: - Please remember to book a time to come to our open house on Thursday, September 22. Bookings are online and the information was sent in an email. If you are Ms. McLean's class please book under her maiden name "Christine Kucheran" - We are beginning to collect "toonies for Terry" - Please bring back school forms -Early dismissal (12PM): Thursday, September 22nd -No school on Friday, September 23rd Today we went to the learning commons and signed out our first book of the year! We also worked very hard to finish our soundscape and video recorded our efforts!
