We built our 3rd ice cube insulator - ask me what materials I used as insulation. Our elf job today was to figure out which reindeers reins were which. They were all mixed up and we had to use non-standard measurement to find which ones were longer. We also did some caroling and designed our new classroom using loose parts.

Reminders: Open House - We really hope all our families will be able to join us for the Open House on Thursday from 6:oo to 7:30pm at the new Eric Harvie School! It will be such a great chance to see the school before the break and join together for some carolling. There will be no school for students on Friday. Return any Tuscany library books you might have still at home! Today we got to go on the giant floor map. We found 5 cities: Iqaluit, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary & Halifax. Then we compared the temperatures in each of those cities. We also colored a thermometer so that we could compare different temperatures. For example, we learned that plus 30 is very hot and that -20 is very cold. We also made some Christmas cards using bubble wrap - see the picture below.
Reminders: - please return all home reading and Tuscany School library books ASAP - The weather forecast is improving so it looks like we will be going outside for recess and at lunch. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather- a hat, gloves and mitts are a must! Snow pants, boots and a very warm jacket will make it more enjoyable!\ Today we filmed a relfection on our ice cube insulators. We also finished figuring out how much the snowman sweaters cost. We practiced using our doubles and making ten strategies to figure out some equations. We also had a peace assembly.
Reminders: - all library books need to be returned - all home reading books need to be returned by Monday Today we built our second ice cube insulator - ask me what materials I used and why. In math we had to help the elves figure out the cost of snowmen on Christmas sweaters. We had to add 6 numbers together to figure it out! We also learned a new dominoes game and spent time reading.
Reminders: - All tuscany school library books need to be returned by tomorrow - Continue to dress for the weather - Half-day tomorrow Today we were busy helping the elves with toy blocks. We had to figure out which bag of blocks belonged to who. We had to know shapes, and the difference between odd and even numbers to help us solve the problem. We also cut apart an old lunch kit and got to look at the layers inside. We noticed there was foam as insulation. We tried freezing water in different types of containers to see which would freeze the fastest. There is a picture of our finished Rudolph Door below
Reminders: - All tuscany school library books need to be returned by this Friday Dec. 9 - Continue to dress warmly for this crazy cold weather We're almost finished decorating our "Rudolph" door! We were busy today helping the elves figure out which ornaments were supposed to go to which kids! We are going to work on organizing our work to help us remember so many details!
We also watched a video about the many ways things are insulated and quickly examined our lunch kits to see what we felt. Hopefully, this new knowledge will help us build better structures to keep our ice cubes colder for longer! Reminders:
We had an exciting day today! Everyone looked very Christmasy and we decorated our door. We didn't quite finish so we will tomorrow and then we'll post a picture. We also got an exciting message for Santa. He needs some more helpers so we have applied to become elves. We hear he has some jobs for us over the next two weeks. We learned our doubles math facts and played a new game with them.
Reminders: - dress for the cold weather this week Today we had a busy morning. We used emojis to flag some work we think is awesome and one thing we might need help with. Ms. McLean's class got to see baby Cadence again! We also had music.
Reminders: - No school on Friday - Wear your Christmas sweater on Monday Dec. 5 for our door decorating day |
