We had a busy day today with exchanging library books, music, and reading. Also, some of the other grade 1s and 2s led our first peace assembly! We had our 3rd attempt at making 40 different colours. The students made a plan of how we were going to track who made what color and how we'd get a variety of colors. It was our best try yet. We are learning that we can try things and try again. Below are some of our reflections:
"It was hard to get the shade that I wanted. At first when I made green it was a bit too light and then I added black and it made it way to dark and then I added white again and it was ok" "I learned that whenever I put red and yellow and blue together I always get purple instead of brown. I ended up making brown by making little dots to figure it out" Reminders:
Today we went for a community walk to our new school! We asked the students to think about what are some important things we have in our community and what questions might they have about our new school. We are going to discuss this more in detail tomorrow!
We started thinking about what we might do with our box for our upcoming project. We sketched our box and recorded some of the things we noticed about the size, flaps, or openings. Reminders:
Today learned all about Eric Harvie's work. We found out he was a lawyer and a business man, Then we journaled about what we'd like to be when we grow up in our Important Books. In math we learned a new game called "Let it Roll". We also had a fire drill and worked on thinking of ways we can be kind to each other.
Reminders: - please bring in a box for our box project (1 per student - they must be able to carry it) - remember to return home reading books if you are finished with them - please bring your blue folder to school everyday for notices - we are going on a community walk tomorrow so please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather Today we practiced 2 strategies for word solving: sounding out and chunking. We found out that the mystery man we've been studying was Eric Harvie! We learned about his family today.
We also worked on creating and matching patterns with a partner and creating a pattern frame for a special picture in our important book. Ask us about the famous artist we learned about today: Leonardo di Vinci! |
