My favourite part of Sports day was the bob sledding. Today my favourite one was after lunch we could go on the playground. Tomorrow's the last day of school for two whole months. Tomorrow is a half day. We will dismiss at 12:05 I got a Korean flag for face paint today. Euan's birthday and his mom's birthday is over the summer. Today my Dad was doing the bob sledding. Even though it was windy outside, the parachute people had lots of fun but we couldn't quite make a mushroom. Today Jaylene got her face painted as a skull. Today I was Mr. Simmons' - James J.

If you would like to order a snack for Sports Day, please visit Healthy Hunger. Orders are due tomorrow.
We had a wonderful morning finding our way to the "Hidden Playground". Thank you so much to the parents who sent in extra snacks for us all. It made the trip special for the students. In math we played a game called, "Race to Zero". This game teaches breaking 10s down into ones for subtraction (ie, 30 is 3 tens. If we subtract 3 we break a 10 into ones and take away 3, then we have 2 tens and 7 ones). We had a visit from some Kindergarten students who are excited to come into grade 1 next year. We read to them, took them out for P.E. and did some math! Today we were going to finish our Nose HIll Journaling but instead we did math at the playground with the gr. 3/4 class.
I counted the monkey bars by 2's to 8. In playground math I found 3 circles and I measure the radius. The radius was the size of my arm. One was the size of my leg. Can you find the radius of a sphere? The temperature of the rubber ground was 45 degrees celsius. Tomorrow we are going for a walk to the Hidden Playground. Please bring a hat and wear sun screen. Thank you to the volunteers who have offered to bring in special snacks! Thursday is fun lunch. We will be going on our very last playground walk on Tuesday, June 19. There we will have a bit of a year end celebration. The weather looks beautiful for the day so please send a hat and some sunscreen as the "Hidden Playground" is a bit of a walk to the north in Tuscany. Please look for a sign up if you would like to come along with us or send a gluten free/dairy free/nut free snack for the class.
June 26 is Sports Day and we need volunteers to help out. Last year was a huge success because of the volunteer turnout. Hopefully we can repeat that success and make it even more of a success this year. Please check out the School Council Sign Up Genius to volunteer. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080d44afab28abf94-sports1 We had a fabulous day today exploring Nose Hill Park. Thank you so much to our parent volunteers. Thank you also to the students for being absolutely amazing on this trip. It's truly remarkable to see how calm, respectful and mindful they are. They were using their keen observation skills to inquire into a variety of species of plants. Today we finished working on our top secret project that will be going home Friday.
Today we prepared for tomorrow's trip by discussing the plants and animals our students may see tomorrow. We talked about what we might ask ourselves while looking at indigenous plants we see. Here are their responses: Ask what type is it? How did it get there? Do bees take nectar from it? What is it used for? Should I pick it or leave it? Is it safe or is it poisonous? What does this plant need to survive? Unless there is a risk of thunder, we will be leaving for our trip at 9:00am and returning to the school by 12:30. Please pack lots of small snacks so that the students can eat and walk and we will have lunch once we return to the school. Please also send a full water bottle and make sure students wear rain gear! Good Afternoon Families,
Sadly, we need to advise our families that Mr. Simmons' father passed away on June 8. Mr. Simmons has left Calgary to be with his family for several days. If you have any concerns or questions about your students, kindly email Mrs. Cox ([email protected]), Mrs. Bowles ([email protected]) or Mrs. Kinsman ([email protected]). Thank you. Today we finished part of a secret project that will go home Friday Mr. Simmons' class had their final baby visit for the year. Thank you so much to Maximo's Mom, Dana and his brother, Joaquin for teaching us all empathy and all about babies! Mrs. Cox's class worked on a math booklet. Today we played a soccer game in P.E. but there were lots of nets. We did Daily 5, read to self and Read to a Partner today. Please note that we will still go to Nose Hill Park on Thursday even if it is raining but we will just go for a half day and eat lunch back at the school. Please send lots of snacks that the kids can take with them and easily eat while moving. Reminders:

Yes, there really is another field trip form that was sent home today. We are going to Nose Hill Park on June 14th for the whole day. Highlights: Today we found Eric Harvie's old car. Today Mr. Simmons told us that the slide on St. Patrick's Island was closed and we were all very mad/sad. I was very sad when I saw the picture when it was closed. Today we day filled with PE. Today Mrs. Slot's group went up a huge hill. Today my group saw a deer in the woods and it was a metre away from us. Today my group saw an old chicken coop which had caught on fire at the same time as the big house. Today we went on a huge walk and my group had lunch early. One of my group people stuck their arm in a hall and they said they felt something scaly and furry. Before we saw a sign that said these birds travel to Mexico and the USA for the winter and come here for the summer and spring. I think that's what we found in the hole. Today Mr. Simmons' found a skull. Today we walked and walked then me and Cole - our feet were killing us. My group saw a huge beehive - it was called a bee hotel. There was fluff inside of it. Today my group saw tons of wild roses. Mr. Simmons is the best teacher ever! Mrs. Cox is going to be mad about that! |
